In Chapter 24, Hildy goes to her local Toys "R" Us with Zack to find out what the mystery person has to tell her. She never reveals her face to Hildy, but tells her that Midian Associates is paying Pen Piedmont to write articles about the Ludlow House and the Red Road properties. She tells her that she works at The Bee and knows where the money goes. She said they're doing this so that property values would go down as a result of a "ghost". She says that she suspects that they're paying the psychic, as well. She leaves, and Zack gets a picture of her. Hildy recognizes her as Veronica Blitzer, her old babysitter, who has always been obsessed with Barbies. Zack calls and figures out that she is the bookkeeper of The Bee.
Every property on Red Road is getting sold for the amusement park. No one wants to go, but they are being forced to leave. Lacey's family's property is next to be asked to sell and they refuse to leave. The person that visited them was from Massachusetts! Baker does research on the license plate number, only to find out that the car is registered to D&B Security in Boston. Hildy calls Veronica and asks for the whole story on her findings. She gives it to her, basically telling her that they are publishing a scam. Later on that night, Hildy writes an article on all of the information that she got. Baker calls her the next morning and tells her to call, both, Pen and Martin, read them the article, and ask for any comments that they have on it before publishing it.
In Chapter 25, she calls Piedmont at the sheriff's office. He tells her that she's lying throughout the whole article. After being very mean (to say the least) on the phone, the sheriff tells Hildy that he's going to talk to Pen.
The article was released. Nowadays, people have signs in their store windows saying that they no longer carry The Bee, they carry The Peel.
Madame Zobek gets a visit from the sheriff and, as a result, she leaves the town. Mrs. Kutash counter sued Pen saying that he knowingly shut down a "vital school communications network". He, also, left the town on "an extended vacation".
On December 8th, Martin Midian holds a press conference, telling the community that they will start construction early next week!
In the final chapter, Chapter 26, Midian Associates started using eminent domain (law that says a city or community can force people to leave their homes if they can prove the land can be used for something better). Everyone starts to protest. On construction day, the Elders Against Evil started a protest on the land. They fake injuries to stay on the property longer, but are, eventually, taken away via ambulance. Two properties were destroyed including the Ludlow house. Just as it was being loaded on to the flatbed trucks, it split in two. It completely collapsed on December 17. Pen's editorial stated that it was the ghost. Desperate to keep The Bee alive? Yes! Lacey Horton's family made it through the winter with the help of the community, as well. Zack, Elizabeth, and Hildy plant a garden on the Ludlow property, which is only being sold, now, as a residential spot. Everyone is ready for a good harvest year this year. They just might get it!
This book was really good, with some not-so-good, cheesy romantic parts which practically make you cringe when you read them, but overall, a good book. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes ghost stories, mysteries, or anything about farmlife.
Stay tuned for the next blog about Ex-mas based around Christmas time! Appropriate right?
