We find out, in Chapter 18, that The Core is becoming hotter and hotter, thanks to the many people involved helping to make it better. Baker wants Hildy to go and interview Pen Piedmont. Zack goes with Hildy to the interview. Pen lies a lot in the interview. He is annoyed that reporters from The Core are there, interviewing him! He lies about where he was previously employed. The next day, in The Bee, Pen calls Hildy a liar AND misspells her name. What a jerk! Hildy can't find the right Martin in Boston. There are way too many there to even know where to begin. Elizabeth, later on, forgives Hildy for turning her in to the family. She made her some fudge. The town meeting has been pushed up to that same night at 7p.m.

In Chapter 19, Mayor Frank T. Fudd is at the town meeting. Everyone is very upset at the meeting. He introduces Martin! to talk to the community about bringing Banesville into the 21st Century. Martin just bought the Ludlow place!!! He wants to create more tourist spots, including a haunted theme park, which would cause a lot of people to move from their homes that they currently own and start anew. Pen and Hildy, both, start to shout questions at Martin. Hildy made a very good first impression by her professionalism. The last question she asks Martin is where his company is located and he says... In Boston!

In Chapter 20, we find out that The Core is being sued by Pen for publishing lies, although they are all truths, or lies from Pen, himself, in quotes. Mrs. Kutash, the principal, informs Hildy that The Core can no longer be continued. Hildy leaves school sick, and goes to her father's grave sight and then to Minska's Cafe. Minska tells Hildy to create an underground newspaper. She tells her that she can use the back room where they print menus to print a newspaper. That night, Hildy sends an email out to all of The Core's members and tells them to meet at Minska's Cafe at 8:00p.m.

Right now, I absolutely hate Pen Piedmont! I cannot believe that he sued The Core. Words can't describe my hate towards him. He's just a terrible person.
