Peeled; Chapters 5-7

Pages 42-68

This part of the book was pretty dry, so I really don't have much to write about.

We're introduced to Zack Coleman. He seems to be a bit of a creeper at first, but, now he seems sane, and I actually kind of like him.

In Chapter 6, we're introduced to Mr. Grasso, the athletic director. The principal, Mrs. Kutash, has put him in charge of The Core, since their old newspaper adviser, Mr. Loring, left. No one is thrilled about this, especially when he reveals that he has never worked on a newspaper before. Darrell, the editor, worries everyone by threatening that the paper could fail since Mr. Grasso came.

While at home, Hildy finally musters up the courage to call the sheriff's office and ask for some information on the Ludlow house and the murder. She sounds professional and is very proud of herself when the sheriff gives her good information to use on an article.

It's career day at school. Hildy and Mr. Grasso go over to meet the best of the best news reporters, Baker Polton. I really don't like Baker Polton. He treats everyone like they're below him on the food chain, and he's just a loser, really.

Chaper 7 closes with Hildy getting enough courage to email Mr. Polton to ask him for assistance on the school's newspaper, only to have him reply back saying that he's too busy for that. Man, I really don't like this man!

Okay... I had more to write about than I thought I did...

Peeled; Chapters 3-4

Pages 22-41

In this part of the book, Hildy goes to court to get the lastest on the intrusion of the Ludlow House. The intrudor's name is Houston Bule. We don't find out much more about him except for his name. He tells the judge, Judge Forrester, that he was sent by his company, D&B Security, to see what they could do to try and secure the house better and prevent trespassers. He's kept in custody until they can find another suspect, Donny Lupo.

Hildy, later, finds out that a murder victim has been found on the Ludlow property, in the same general area where Ludlow died. Later on that night, Felix, Hildy's uncle, recieved a call from the sheriff. He informs Felix of the very little amount of details that they have found. He goes to lock the door, something that he hasn't done in years.

Everyone in the town is shaken up about the murder. It's the topic of the day during the Banesville Farmers Market day.

Lacey Horton's family, and many others, are having a hard harvest year. They might not be able to last for much longer...

Hildy is a character that I don't like as much anymore. She likes to talk about her ex-boyfriends a lot. When I am introduced to a new character in the book, she says that they're the mom/dad of her first, second, third, etc. ex. It's very annoying. If it's not that, she talks about how she used to like the son of that parent. She always has a story pertaining to that, and it doesn't seem to go with the story at all. This is also annoying because she is the person telling what's going on in the book.

Peeled; Chapters 1-2

By: Joan Bauer

Pages 1-21

This book is a pretty good book of what I've read so far. Here is a little piece of what happened in the first and second chapters...

Hildy Biddle is her high school's best newspaper reporter for The Core. In the first chapter, she writes a story on how Bonnie Sue Bomgartner, upstate New York's 67th Apple Blossom (was-to-be-) Queen, got food poisoning the day before the crowning at the local festival. She goes on to write, the next day, how Lacey Horton, the runner-up, gets crowned. Both, Lacey's and Hildy's families are orchard owners. Hildy seems to feel a connection to Lacey because she is the type of person that is on the same level as Hildy. She gets what she's going through. The festival coordinator, Mrs. Perth got on my nerves because she is a snooty, know-it-all, person. She doesn't appeal to me because of her snobbiness towards others. She doesn't seem to like the fact that Lacey got crowned to be the Apple Blossom Queen.

We learn about the Ludlow house as well. The house is known to have a ghost inhabiting it who is, supposedly, Mr. Ludlow, himself, or, as everyone likes to call him, Old Man Ludlow. Hildy wants to get behind the story and all there is to know about the house before she jumps to any conclusions. And she gets a sneak peak of just that...

Hildy embarks on an adventure to the Ludlow house early in the morning due to a call she got from Darrell, The Core's editor. Hildy is the best newspaper reporter in her school because of her great detail and her ability to keep asking questions. After she takes her notes and leaves the house, we leave her while she's at the school. In the midst of typing, she is stopped by Darrell who informs her to go over to the courthouse, where the man who was convicted of trying to break into the Ludlow house earlier, is being held. She decides to embark on this adventure...

The first two chapters of Peeled were very good. The book just grabs you and pulls you in. It is filled with a sense of "what's going to happen next?" which I love! Also, sorry for the lengthy summary, but the next blog entries to come will be better because we all have an idea of what's happening.
